Romeo had, it was true, said several times yesterday that he wouldn't go looking for a fight.
And he wasn't. Honest. But it was a rainy day, and there was a particular and rather inaccessible corner of the beach that he liked especially well when he was trying to write. He couldn't imagine many zombies would be out yet; if they were, he was armed.
Sitting on a rock, he stared moodily into the ocean and thought about death that was not death.
[OOC: For two zombies in particular and then someone else. Thanks!]

Date: 2009-04-03 02:18 pm (UTC)"Aye, me," he muttered, horrified and dismayed to see two zombies. One was a thin redheaded man; the other was a blond woman, almost stunning even in her advanced state of decay.
Denial was a powerful thing, and was going to take a moment for him to process exactly what that meant. For now, he scrambled backward on the rocks, trying to escape before they got any closer.

Date: 2009-04-03 02:36 pm (UTC)"Hungry?" she asked hopefully, reaching out a hand to their prey. This zombie was a firm believer in letting the meat do most of the work.

No. Not Again.
The world froze, and he let out a sound not much more human than the noises the zombies made as he jerked back and away, still trying to get past the wall of rocks to the sand. He couldn't try to kill them, but he could run.

Date: 2009-04-03 02:52 pm (UTC)Reno's hungry grin spoke volumes as to how familiar he was with this chase. And it spoke of how much he'd enjoyed it, even in life, when his hunger had been satisfied simply with the kill.
Romeo could run, but the zombies were hunters, and they didn't tire. Reno followed.

She moved to flank him slowly, wanting to cut off at least one route of escape. He would fall eventually, but she did prefer sooner over later.

Date: 2009-04-03 03:14 pm (UTC)Acts of Contrition played on an endless loop in his head -- ...I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven ... -- as he hopped off the rocks, and, with shaking hands, lifted his gun.
He was fumbling too badly to shoot. "Please, no," he said, almost crying. "It's me. Romeo. We can cure this."

Date: 2009-04-03 03:21 pm (UTC)Just another target. Just more meat. And the best cure for this was the curse. Romeo would like it on the other side.
And that was why, without bothering to make any sort of vocal reply, Reno simply stepped off of the rocks, taking the drop in stride in spite of a sick crunch in his leg at the bottom. And he reached for Romeo again.

Date: 2009-04-03 03:31 pm (UTC)He fired a wild shot going far over the zombies' heads, then started to run in earnest. The rocks scraped his palms, and bile rose to burn his throat.

Date: 2009-04-03 03:35 pm (UTC)The crack of gunfire had her back on guard, anyhow. She peered forward, spotting a young man -- a student, from the looks of him -- running, with two zombies not far behind.
The zombies looked familiar. That wasn't pertinent information.
"Are you all right?" she called to the young man. Stupid question. "I can help!"

Date: 2009-04-03 03:54 pm (UTC)"Take," Reno agreed, lumbering forward and making a grab at Romeo again. It was so easy, when the boy kept stopping to make conversation, wasn't it?

Date: 2009-04-03 04:09 pm (UTC)Sarah pulled her trigger twice, rapidly, shooting for the zombie's reaching arms, and forcefully shoved the kid backwards. "Run," she seethed. "We don't need more zombies."
She was following her own advice, as it happened.

Date: 2009-04-03 04:13 pm (UTC)And then he wasn't saying anything at all, because Sarah had grabbed his arm and was half-dragging him along the sand to the nearest trooper. She wasn't wasting breath or time on talking, anymore.

Date: 2009-04-03 04:18 pm (UTC)Reno loosed a frustrated growl as he attempted to pick up his pace to follow, shrugging off the bullet that had buried itself in his flesh and ignoring the seeping wound.
The problem with meat so fresh was that it had a tendency to attempt to escape.

Date: 2009-04-03 04:21 pm (UTC)The boy would fall eventually, and the Annoying Meat would either leave it behind, or have to deal with both of them. She could be patient.

Date: 2009-04-03 04:28 pm (UTC)She fired two more shots without waiting for an answer, aiming for the zombie's guts this time -- out of fear for what the kid would do if he saw his friends' heads explode, she wasn't shooting to kill -- and ran off in the opposite direction from the school. She'd get to shelter soon, then patch up any zombie damage.
