Romeo knew Benvolio did not actually want to hear from him; he had been told as much, in as few words as his onetime dearest cousin could manage, because Benvolio knew that more words would give Romeo more room to charm him into forgiveness.

Yet with two days of Fandom behind him, Romeo had to reach out to someone who knew him from back home.

I am settled at my new school, far across this land. There seems to be witchcraft here, and I am told of other wonders. And yet there is a freedom in this place; none yet have took note of my surname, and, having heard naught of the Capels, I believe so it shall remain.

The school, going beyond my parents, has given me a sibling, John (he is of the City of the Angels and wishes to surf with me), as well as a roommate named Teyla. Yea, they have placed me with one of the fair sex, yet I shall endeavor not to become enchanted by her even in such close quarters.

I am to take classes in religion, ethics, and (oh, you will fancy this) the art of "cool." Think thou I shall do well?

Mayhap it is better you not answer. But no! -- Write if thou wilt, I long for your words.

P.S. Note this well should thou ever leave Verona: The students here, wherever they come from, and however kindly they be,
often speak like children, or the dullwitted. Is the poetry of our tongues so nearly dead?

The letter sent, most likely to remain unread, Romeo settled back on his bed and stared at the glow-in-the-dark constellations he had arranged on the ceiling above. It was a childish touch, yet one he took a measure of delight in.
