Dojima-Montague Apartment, Tokyo, Wednesday Morning

Romeo's nineteenth birthday started with a package from his father containing a collection of Lord Byron's works, a dagger that was about twice as elaborate as anything Romeo had any business carrying, and a letter that suggested -- in a polite, backhanded, and elaborate way -- that Romeo was missed and should make it his business to visit Verona sooner rather than later.

There was also a large box of chocolates. They were good. Romeo ate the caramels as his breakfast. He should have been reading about the equilibrium point in supply and demand, but that kept turning into perusal of the poetry. Really, the poetry struck him as more relevant.

"Because it's shiny?" Yurika offered innocently. "The ways of boys are very strange and mysterious."

"I think I have to be the judge of whether it's shiny or not," Romeo observed. "I don't suppose I could see it?"

Yurika eyed him warily. "Just a peek," she said finally, undoing only the top button of her blouse to show a bit of blue. "Since I have to get changed for dinner anyway."

And Yurika did want to make it to the restaurant.

The peek was enough. "Where are we going for dinner?" Romeo asked, kissing her chest just above the button. "We don't need to ... linger, do we?"

"I thought we'd go somewhere nice for dessert," she said, all wide eyes and innocence as she headed towards the bedroom to change. "School wear you out?"

Another button got undone. "And no peeking!"

"No classes today," Romeo practically sang, keeping his back to her despitre temptation. "I got calls from Arthur, and Ino, and Reno and Rikku. My father sent a box and a request for my presence in Verona."

"Do we want to go to Verona for Thanksgiving or Christmas? Or both?" Her shirt came sailing of the bedroom to land on the floor. "Although remind me to call Reno and Rikku back later. I had an idea I wanted to run past them."

"How are Ino and Arthur? Island still standing?"

"They had an invasion of vegetables," Romeo answered. "From what I'm told, it made quite a mess, but none were injured. So -- the usual."

He perked up at her suggestion. "Could we stay from Wednesday to Sunday, Thanksgiving week? That would please him." And Romeo needed the beach.

"Vegetables?" Yurika stuck her head out and stared at him. "Seriously? That's... special. Even for Fandom."

She vanished back into he bedroom before he could answer. "Haaaaaaaaaaai. Tell your poppa we'll see him Wednesday, and warn Ben that I'm stealing his wife for some shopping."

"They ruined everyone's hair." Because of course Romeo was friends with people who worried about their hair. He sounded happy as he continued. "And thank you, and aye, you should take Rosaline shopping. She asked after you. Or, Ben told me to tell you she asked after you."

"Poor Arthur, I'm sure it took him eons to get it all out," she giggled.

'Cause it was funnier than picturing Yamanaka-san with veggie-guts.

"We should invite them out here sometime, although I cringe to think what you and Ben could get up to unsupervised."

"And Merlin's a bird, so he's not even chancing washing his clothes," Romeo reported, not without glee. "And we should. I think Tokyo's no match for two Montagues. Is there a time you had in mind?"

"Well I was thinking we should make Reno and Rikku come out for New Year's," she mused. "Too bad they just missed Culture Day, that could have been fun! Although I suppose any Friday night can be a holiday..."

"New Year's in Tokyo," Romeo said in satisfaction. "Likely to be a better party than anything else." He stepped toward the bedroom, craning his neck to try to see her. "Are you ready?"
